Marimekko is a Finnish design house celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours. Founded in 1951 by a visionary woman Armi Ratia, Marimekko is said to be one of the world's first real lifestyle brands combining fashion, bags and accessories as well as home decoration into one unique point of view.

"Over the years, we have remained true to our original mission of bringing joy to everyday moments. Through our timeless, distinctive and functional designs, we want to empower people to be happy as they are: to live their lives as they desire and to express their personality boldly through the way that they dress themselves and their homes."

Maija Louekari is a Helsinki-based freelance illustrator and designer who has studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. The starting point of her career was in 2003 when she won a design competition co-organised by Marimekko and the University of Art and Design Helsinki.

The classic Marimekko print Unikko was created in 1964, after Marimekko founder Armi Ratia publicly proclaimed a ban on flowers in Marimekko prints. Artist Maija Isola defied the order and designed a whole collection of floral patterns that were so fresh and unique that Armi ended up taking eight of them. One of those she accepted was Unikko, the future icon of icons.

This small bowl with the Unikko pattern in red, blue and white is perfect for desserts and snacks.
