Marimekko is a Finnish design house celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours. Founded in 1951 by a visionary woman Armi Ratia, Marimekko is said to be one of the world's first real lifestyle brands combining fashion, bags and accessories as well as home decoration into one unique point of view.
"Over the years, we have remained true to our original mission of bringing joy to everyday moments. Through our timeless, distinctive and functional designs, we want to empower people to be happy as they are: to live their lives as they desire and to express their personality boldly through the way that they dress themselves and their homes."
Made from cotton panama, this cushion cover features the Pieni Karhuemo [mother bear] pattern, which is printed in Helsinki.
The cover has a concealed zipper on one side. Marimekko cushion covers are sewn using the whole width of the fabric, and therefore their appearance may vary slightly. Each item is unique.
The Karhuemo (mother bear) pattern is based on a plant-themed sketch made by Aino-Maija Metsola for the Ruudut (squares) print created in collaboration between four designers for Marimekko’s spring collection for 2021, the year of the company’s 70th anniversary. Among the flowers and leaves in the original sketch, Aino-Maija added a bear with its cub. The ground is rumbling under the galloping mother bear, while the baby has reared on its hind legs to observe the land.
2021 sees the 70th Anniversary of Marimekko. The Karhuemo design is part of the collection to celebrate this significant milestone!
