Marimekko is a Finnish design house celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours. Founded in 1951 by a visionary woman Armi Ratia, Marimekko is said to be one of the world's first real lifestyle brands combining fashion, bags and accessories as well as home decoration into one unique point of view.
"Over the years, we have remained true to our original mission of bringing joy to everyday moments. Through our timeless, distinctive and functional designs, we want to empower people to be happy as they are: to live their lives as they desire and to express their personality boldly through the way that they dress themselves and their homes."
This cotton cushion cover features the Joonas pattern, which is printed in Helsinki. The cover has a concealed zipper on one side.
Marimekko cushion covers are sewn using the whole width of the fabric, and therefore their appearance may vary slightly. Each item is unique. This fabric was printed with a colour mixed from dyes left over from Marimekko's printing production. Colours of individual products may vary due to the different mixtures of leftover dyes used. 25% of the cotton used in this product is recycled cotton.
In 1961, Maija Isola spent many evenings and nights working in Marimekko’s print factory – painting in gentle, sweeping brushstrokes to the sway of music. Meter upon meter of new patterns emerged. On one of those nights, Joonas (Jonah), a pattern inspired by the sun dancing on the waves of the Mediterranean, saw the light of day.
2021 sees the 70th Anniversary of Marimekko. The Joonas design is part of the collection to celebrate this significant milestone!
