Marimekko is a Finnish design house celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours. Founded in 1951 by a visionary woman Armi Ratia, Marimekko is said to be one of the world's first real lifestyle brands combining fashion, bags and accessories as well as home decoration into one unique point of view.
"Over the years, we have remained true to our original mission of bringing joy to everyday moments. Through our timeless, distinctive and functional designs, we want to empower people to be happy as they are: to live their lives as they desire and to express their personality boldly through the way that they dress themselves and their homes."
The Unikko Ralli pattern is featured on this multipurpose tin box, which is a Marimekko classic for the home. The box opens with a hinged lid.
With its organic, sympathetic blooms and architectonic stripes, the Unikko Ralli print is an inspiring fusion of two Maija Isola designs from the 1960s. Marimekko’s famous poppy pattern Unikko was born in 1964 in a time when the design house’s collections featured mostly abstract prints. Designer Maija Isola wanted to create something interesting from this organic theme and designed an entire range of floral prints. Today, the iconic flower represents creativity. The dynamic stripe pattern Ralli (rally race), created by Maija Isola in 1969, was inspired by the streamlined tapings seen on traditional racecars. In the print, sophisticated vertical color blocks constitute a well-balanced design.
