What started as a glass factory in Iittala, Finland, today celebrates generations of essential objects that are made to enrich people’s everyday lives. Iittala believes objects should be distinctive, combinable and multi-functional, with lasting design that inspires individual use and expression.
The Aalto Vase dates back to 1936 and was first presented at the Paris World Fair the following year. Its fluid, organic form is still mouth blown today at the Iittala factory. It takes a team of seven skilled craftsmen working as one to create one Aalto vase – an icon of modern design.
This year, 2022, Iittala’s two annual glass colours; a cool, glowing and rich Ultramarine Blue and a warm, cozy Copper are rooted in nature. The copperis a natural, earthy tone that is soothing and calm, and the energizing ltramarine blue is inspired by the Finnish lakes, and can serve as a vivid detail in any interior. The unique expertise of Iittala Glass Factory is visible in the deep tones that bring new character to Iittala’s iconic pieces.
