Marimekko is a Finnish design house celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours. Founded in 1951 by a visionary woman Armi Ratia, Marimekko is said to be one of the world's first real lifestyle brands combining fashion, bags and accessories as well as home decoration into one unique point of view.

"Over the years, we have remained true to our original mission of bringing joy to everyday moments. Through our timeless, distinctive and functional designs, we want to empower people to be happy as they are: to live their lives as they desire and to express their personality boldly through the way that they dress themselves and their homes."

Made from unbleached cotton, this oven mitten features the Pieni Unikko pattern, which is printed in Helsinki. The oven mitten has a padded filling and a hanging loop. This product was made from fabric printed with natural indigo, a plant-based dye extracted from Finnish woad. The colour may fade a little during the first few washes and use. Marimekko’s famous poppy pattern Unikko was born in 1964 in a time when the design house’s collections featured mostly abstract prints. Designer Maija Isola wanted to create something interesting from this organic theme and designed an entire range of floral prints. Today, the iconic flower represents creativity.

A baker´s best friend has to be able to take the heat. There´s no reason it can't look tasty, too: a Pieni Unikko oven mitt is a classic choice for the kitchen.
